What we stand for
What we value and what we believe
Just One A Day is built on a handful of convictions about why dating online has got worse and what a platform can honestly do about it. They are written down here so that anybody can hold us to them.
01
Effort
Dating takes work, and a platform that pretends otherwise is selling something. We build for the work: one considered recommendation a day instead of an endless directory, and a proper set of questions at the start instead of a vague intention. We ask you for effort, so we put the effort in to make yours count.
02
Courage
Showing up, staying with it, and behaving well take courage. We match it on our side by publishing our numbers, including the ones that make us look ordinary or worse.
03
Integrity
The product rewards honesty rather than working the system. No like button to farm cheap attention. No hidden thumb on the scale. One price, the same for everybody.
04
Respect
Taking an allegation seriously is not the same as treating it as proof. A report of misrepresentation carries no automatic penalty and the person reported is told plainly that nothing has changed, because due process is a form of respect.
05
Transparency
We publish what the platform actually does. Confirmed dates is the headline, because it is the measure that matters to you rather than the one that flatters us. Transparency is not a marketing layer bolted on afterwards — we decided how to measure ourselves before we built anything.
What we believe
- The dating scene is broken, online dating most of all, and we want to play our part in rebuilding it one step at a time.
- People have to relearn how to make an effort. Online dating made signalling too cheap. A like costs nothing, so it says nothing.
- Confirmed dates is the only measure of success that counts. Everything we build is judged on whether it leads to more real meetings between real people.
- Quality is not about how somebody looks. It is whether they show up, reply, and stay with it, and that shows in behaviour rather than in photographs.
- The dating scene puts too much weight on the physical and not enough on what lasts.
- A large number of members means nothing on its own. What matters is whether what is happening around you is real and relevant to you.
- We will never fake activity, or make the platform look busier than it is. That kind of dishonesty has no place here.
- The uncomfortable feedback is the useful kind.
- People date for many different reasons, and a platform should not assume everybody wants the same thing.
- Monogamous and non-monogamous relationships are equally valid. Neither is the default and neither is the niche, and we serve both the same.
- Everybody has a choice and it has to be respected. No means no.
- One price, the same for everybody. We do not treat some people as more worth including than others.
- Slow is the feature. No streaks, no badges, no counts of who liked you, nothing designed to keep you opening the app. They would contradict the product.
These are not the rules
What we value is one thing and what you may and may not do is another. The rules that limit a member are published in full, before anybody joins, and they are the ones that actually bind. This page says why they are what they are.
