Who we are, why this exists

One person runs Just One A Day. My name is Donn and I am building it.

Most dating apps talk to you in a company voice with nobody’s name on it. You are going to be asked for an identity document, a photograph of your face and a card. You should know who is at the other end of that.

Nobody can join yet. What follows is what Just One A Day will be when it opens, and not a report on how it is going.

Why it exists

Every dating app knows how many of the people paying for it never got a date, how long people wait, and how many pay for a year and meet nobody. None of them will say. I spent a long time paying for apps that would not tell me whether they worked for anybody, and there was no way to find out.

So I am building one that says. Members will be shown how the platform is actually performing, including the measures that make it look bad, so somebody can tell what their evenings are likely to look like before spending any of them.

Those numbers will be for members. They will be inside the app and they will not be on this website. I choose what goes in the published set and I say so, rather than letting anybody assume it is everything; the policies we publish are where the rest of that is written down.

How it is paid for

Members will pay £10 a month each, and that will be the whole of the income. There will be no advertising in the app and there is none on this website. There will be nothing else to buy — no boosts, no extra visibility, no second tier.

That is a description of how the money works and not a boast. It is also the reason the numbers can be published at all. The moment anything can be bought, the thing being sold is other members’ attention, and every decision after that is about selling more of it.
